PwC re-elects president in Spain

The PwC Spain Partners' Assembly has re-elected Gonzalo Sánchez as president of the Big Four in Spain for a new four-year term

-

The renewal represents recognition of his management at the helm of PwC since he assumed the presidency in April 2015, thus enjoying the confidence of the partners until June 2027, when, in accordance with the firm’s internal rules, he may undergo a new process of validation and support for his management.

Gonzalo Sánchez is a member of PwC’s Executive Committee in Europe and of the global management committee. He is also a member of the Executive Committee of CEOE, a director of Deusto Business School, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Prince of Asturias Foundation and a member of the jury of the Concord Prize.

In his seven years as national chairman, PwC has grown by more than 35%, with an excellent performance of all its business lines. One of his priorities has always been, precisely, to nurture and multiply talent, and this is reflected in the figure of 17% of new professionals incorporated, to more than 5,000. PwC’s performance in the difficult years of the pandemic has been very relevant, in which, despite the difficulties of the economic environment, the firm in Spain grew by 8% in the period 2019-2021.

Following his appointment, Gonzalo Sánchez highlighted the excellent moment that PwC is experiencing, focused on quality and proximity to its clients. “Today we are the most sustainable professional services firm in the market due to our positioning, our quality and the value of the PwC brand. Our talent and the relationship we have with our clients make us a benchmark of professionalism and trust”. In his first message, he explained that he faces the next strategic period with enormous responsibility and thanked the partners and the team for their trust: “I will continue to work, as I have done until now, to maintain the leadership of the firm and to promote our primary objective as partners to provide careers and opportunities for the more than 5,000 professionals who today make up PwC Spain”.

During Gonzalo Sánchez’s tenure, PwC has become the leading firm in the Spanish audit market, especially among large listed companies. Since 2015, the firm has won the accounts of Santander, Telefónica, la Caixa, Repsol, Bankinter, Catalana Occidente, Acerinox, Metrovacesa, Colonial and Sacyr, among others.

Similarly, it has strengthened the tax and legal advisory division, PwC Tax & Legal, the fourth largest law and tax advisory firm in the Spanish market, both in terms of revenue and number of professionals, and one of the pioneering firms in the development of solutions for the digitalisation of the tax and legal function of companies.

It has also consolidated its leadership in the Transactions business, where PwC has topped the main M&A advisory rankings by number of transactions for the last ten years in a row.
