Ashurst adds Public Law counsel and head in Madrid

Ashurst strengthens its Public Law practice in Madrid with the incorporation of Alfonso González-Espejo as new counsel in its Madrid office, who will head the firm's Public Law practice

Alfonso is the new counsel and heads the Public Law practice of Ashurst Spain. Prior to joining Ashurst, he was a partner in the Financial Legal Services department of KPMG Abogados. Throughout his career, he has also been Secretary of the Board of Directors, General Counsel and Manager of the Legal Department of Grupo LAR and has also headed the General Secretariat’s Legal Department at Bankia.

He is a State Lawyer (Abogado del Estado). As a State Lawyer, he has served, among others, as Chief State Lawyer at the Ministry of Public Administration and Secretary General and Secretary of the Board at the National Energy Commission. He, therefore, has extensive experience working in regulated sectors such as energy and financial services.

Alfonso holds a degree in Law from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and a European Union Law Course at The Hague University (The Netherlands). He also completed a Senior Management course from the Instituto de Empresa (IE) in Madrid.
