CMS Spain appoints new co-managing partner

CMS Albiñana & Suárez de Lezo has appointed María González Gordon as new co-managing partner of the firm

During the extraordinary meeting held recently, the Partners’ Meeting, at the proposal of the Board of Directors, unanimously decided to appoint María González Gordon as the new co-managing partner of the firm. Together with César Albiñana, María will hold this position as of 1st July for a period of 4 years.

María is a member of the Board of Directors and the Management Committee of the Firm chaired by Rafael Suárez de Lezo, in addition to holding other positions of responsibility.

The new co-managing partner will continue to lead the firm’s Intellectual Property and Digital Business area, which enjoys great recognition in the sector.

At the international level, she is a Spanish member of the Executive Committee of CMS and co-global head of Digital Business of the Network, leading a working group made up of more than 250 partners specialising in this area around the world.

The new co-managing partner will complement her work as head of the firm’s IP and Digital Business department with her new management duties. “With the responsibility and commitment that this position requires, my goal is to lead this exciting project with Cesar Albiñana. Together with my partners and colleagues, I will work to achieve the ambitious challenges we have set ourselves for the coming years.”

For Cesar Albiñana, “María has all the right qualities to successfully perform this new role and add value to the firm. We are very satisfied with this election, which has been unanimously agreed by the Board, and which shows the support and consensus of all the partners”.

María González Gordon is a widely recognised professional in her area of practice. She has been advising national and international clients for more than 20 years with a special focus on the technology and big data, digital business, media and content, and life science & health care sectors.

María González Gordon is a leading member of the main sector associations: a member of the European Global Advisory Council of the International Trademark Association, and representative of this association before the EUIPO Observatory (EU Agency for the Protection of IP rights), member of the Board of Directors of the Spanish group of the International Association for the Protection of Industrial Property (AIPPI), an active member of international associations such as Itechlaw, and national associations such as DENAE and ASEDA, member of the Bureau of Art and Culture applied to Blockchain in Alastria. María is also an authorised representative of the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office and the EUIPO.

It should be noted that María González Gordón plays an active role in collaboration with various probono associations and organisations, such as Proyecto Hombre, ADELA or the Probono Foundation.
