Legal Dealmaker is happy and proud to announce that Vicente López-Ibor Mayor, President of the European Federation of Energy Law Associations (EFELA) and President of Asociación Española de Derecho de la Energía (AEDEN), will be this “Top Energy Lawyers Tribute” edition´s HONOUR AWARD, for his remarkable work as head of the only Energy Law association that exists in our country, in the case of AEDEN, and another that brings together associations from 20 different countries in the case of EFELA, as well as for having an outstanding national and international curriculum in the world of Energy Law, both during his time as in-house and as a private practice lawyer at his law firm EJI Abogados López-Ibor Mayor, which he chairs.

About Vicente López-Ibor Mayor

Vicente López-Ibor Mayor (Madrid, 20 March 1959) is a former Commissioner of the Spanish National Energy Commission, of the Spanish National Electricity System Commission and former Special Advisor to the EU Energy Commissioner.

He is a founding partner and president of the law firm Estudio Jurídico Internacional Abogados López-Ibor Mayor & Asociados (EJI), specialising in energy and environmental law. Professor at the Universidad Pontificia Comillas (co-director of the Master’s Degree in the Electricity Sector [Erasmus Mundus]). He is a member of the Advisory Board of Planet First Partners; president of the Spanish Association of Energy Law (AEDEN) and the European Federation of Energy Law Associations (EFELA).

He has spent most of his professional life in the energy sector, in the legal field and the promotion of initiatives linked to renewable energies. He holds a degree and PhD in Law from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. He is a graduate of Harvard Business School and IESE. Mayor holds a PhD in Law from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid.

He was Director of Legal Affairs, Chairman of the Legal Committee and Chairman of the Legal and Public Procurement Committee at UNESA (Spanish Electricity Industry Association). He was also Secretary General of the organisation and the Board from 1995 to 1999. He was Managing Director of the Spanish infrastructure and environmental services firm Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas (FCC), and a member of the Group’s Management Committee, as well as a director of several investee companies, including Xfera (Yoigo).

López-Ibor Mayor has been a member of the Executive, Legal and Strategic Committees of Eurelectric (European Committee of Electricity Companies) and UNIPEDE (International Union of Producers and Distributors of Electrical Energy). He was also a member of the organising committee of the World Solar Summit and Special Advisor to the Unesco Energy Programme (1989-1994); expert on the Energy Council of the Social and Economic Committee of the European Communities (1990-1992); Special Advisor to the Commissioner for Energy, Transport and Institutional Relations of the European Commission (1994-1999); founding member of the European Council of Energy Regulators and member of the Board of Directors of the European Federation of American Alumni ENAM (2011-2018).

López-Ibor Mayor founded Lightsource Renewable Energy Ltd in 2010,5 and chaired that company for seven years; he was also Senior Counsel at the Anglo-Saxon firm Olswang. He is currently Honorary President of the Spanish VÍA-Jefferson Circle North American Association (he was President of the Association since its constitution in 2000); member of the Advisory Board of Global Ties U.S.; co-chair of the Science and Innovation Committee of the Círculo de Empresarios de España; member of the Board of Directors of the European Commission (1994-1999); and member of the Board of Directors of the European Federation of American Alumni ENAM (2011-2018).

As announced, Legal Dealmaker will recognise the enormous talent and practice excellence in the Legal-Energy sector in Spain. The editorial team wants to pay a well-deserved tribute to the lawyers in an event -sponsored by the law firm ONTIER- that will take place next Thursday, 22 September, in NUBEL (Reina Sofía Museum premises). During the act of recognition, a commemorative trophy will be awarded to all the selected candidates present, followed by a cocktail dinner and a networking session.
