W&C expands M&A with double hire from Freshfields

White & Case has hired Freshfields senior associate Álvaro Manzanos, who joins the firm as a partner along with Javier Monzón

White & Case is expanding its Corporate/M&A department with the hiring of Álvaro Manzanos, who joins the firm from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer Madrid, together with Javier Monzón, as already announced by Legal Dealmaker, making it a double partner hire/promotion to strenghthen the firm´s advice in M&A matters.

Álvaro was a senior Corporate/M&A senior associate at Freshfields, having joined the Magic Circle firm in 2010 after an internship at Uría Menéndez.

“Our Madrid office work closely with offices across the firm on landmark transactions for large Spanish and international listed corporates and further strengthening our M&A team there is important for the overall growth and success of our practice,” said White & Case partner John Reiss, head of the Global Mergers & Acquisitions Practice. 

Álvaro was part of the Freshfields Global Transactions Corporate team that advised  China Tianying on the sale of Urbaser to Platinum Equity for €3.5 billion in 2021, under the direction of partner Armando Albarrán. He also advised the Walki Group, a company owned by One Equity Partners, on its acquisition of packaging producer Plasbel, a deal led by Javier Monzón.

Álvaro holds a Law degree and a diploma in Business Studies from Universidad Pontifica Comillas, with a stay at Aarhus University.
