José Félix Velasco´s practice focuses on M&A, Financial Regulatory, Debt Capital Markets and Corporate Law. He has been involved in some of the most significant transactions in Spain in recent years. He is author in several legal publications and media.
He joined Uría Menéndez in 2017, right after an internship at the Spanish Embassy to the UN in New York, monitoring the different crises that took place during the summer of 2014 and contributing to the successful Spanish electoral campaign for a non-permanent seat in the Council during the 15-16 biennium.
He holds a double degree in Law and Economics from Universidad de Navarra, and a double Master´s degree in Law practice, and Regulated Sectors, Banking, Corporate, Finance, and Securities Law.
His M&A experience covers sectors such as e-money and payment services, cybersecurity, energy, real estate, TMT, and hospitality, including foreign direct investment authorization procedures. As DCM advisor, he advises underwriters and credit institutions on the renewal of EMTN & ECP programs, issuances of AT1 and T2 , and other secured and unsecured notes in various currencies, as well as listings in international markets. As Financial Regulatory advisor, he covers the establishment and termination of MiFID / AIFMD branches in Spain and the establishment of a Spanish alternative investment fund.
From New York City, the firm advises US clients on optimising legal structures and in particular their investments in Spain, Portugal and Latin America, managing and structuring its clients’ projects in the US through alliances with leading US and Canadian firms and advising clients from Latin America on Corporate Law and Tax matters connected with Spain and Portugal.
José Félix joins the firm´s New York office from the Madrid office, under the direction of partner José Félix Zaldivar, who heads the NY office since summer 2021.
