Uría Menéndez promotes five to partner

Uría Menéndez has promoted five lawyers to partners; four in its Madrid office and one in Barcelona

Uría has started 2023 appointing five partners: Daniel Cerrutti Buendía, Iván Abad Lloria, Luis Gómez-Iglesias Rosón, and Martin Jordano Luna in the firm´s Madrid office, and Jaime Calvo Retuerto in Barcelona.

Daniel Cerrutti has worked in the firm´s Madrid, Barcelona, New York, and Lima offices. He practices Employment and Social Security Law since he joined the firm in 2010. Daniel focuses his practice on restructurings, collective bargaining, remuneration systems and senior executives, as well as on the court proceedings that arise from these matters. He also advises on labour law issues in the context of corporate transactions.

Iván Abad joined Uría Menéndez in 2012, and until now, has been a senior associate since 2019. His expertise is focused on the Real Estate sector, advising on transactions such as asset deals (hotels, residential or office properties, commercial and logistic centres, etc.) or M&A transactions involving companies with a real estate component. He also participates frequently in the incorporation of joint ventures for real estate developments, sale and purchase of loan portfolios and lease, construction, and commercialization agreements.

Until this appointment, Jaime Calvo has been a counsel based in Uría Menéndez’s Barcelona office. He joined the firm in February 2008. His professional practice focuses on Public, Environment, and sustainable development matters. Jaime advises domestic and foreign companies from all industrial sectors, amongst others, chemical, pharmaceutical, textile, iron and steel, cement, food and paper. He has more than ten years of experience in legal environmental matters and regularly advises on a wide range of issues that arise during the various stages of administrative and contentious-administrative proceedings, such as concessions and sewage permits, waste generation and management, air emissions, noise pollution and soil and groundwater contamination.

Luis Gómez-Iglesias was until his appointment a counsel in Uría Menéndez’s Madrid office. He joined the firm in 2009 and is a member of the Litigation and Arbitration area. He was seconded to the International Litigation and Arbitration Group of Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom LLP in New York from September 2014 to June 2015. Luis advises on civil and commercial litigation and arbitration in proceedings regarding contract disputes, tort claims, corporate disputes (between shareholders, challenges to corporate resolutions, and directors’ liability), class actions and bankruptcy claw-back actions.

Martín Jordano joined Uría Menéndez in March 2012 and is an attorney at the Corporate department of the Madrid office. From September 2016 to May 2017, he worked as a visiting lawyer at the New York office of Sullivan & Cromwell LLP. His professional practice is focused on Mergers and Acquisitions, Capital markets, Company Law and Corporate governance. He regularly advises in both public and private M&A transactions (in Spain and transactions with a heavy multijurisdictional component), in equity and debt issuances and the Spanish law aspects of international financings. Additionally, he dedicates a substantial part of his work to Company law and corporate governance matters, such as general shareholders’ meetings of both listed and non-listed companies, conflicts of interests, fiduciary duties of directors and complex internal reorganizations through innovative structures. Jordano was included on Legal Dealmaker’s Partner-to-be list last February.
