In terms of sectors, the Real Estate sector was the most active, with a total of 55 transactions, followed by the Internet, Software and IT Services sector, with 19.

According to TTR’s monthly M&A report – Transactional Track Record, the M&A market in Spain has accounted for a total of 181 transactions in January 2022 and mobilised capital of approximately €5,306 million. The report also presents a complete and correlational analysis of the most significant cross-border transactions, as well as the most active sectors in the market, where the real estate sector stands out with 55 transactions. League tables are also included, reflecting the activity of legal and financial advisors, taking into account transactions announced in 2022.
These figures represent a decrease of 3.21% in the number of transactions and 54.81% in the capital mobilised compared to the same period in 2021.

Cross-Border
With regard to the Cross-Border market, in January 2022, Spanish companies chose Brazil and the United States as their main investment destinations, with 4 transactions in each case.

On the other hand, the United States and France, with 12 and 9 transactions respectively, are the countries that have made the greatest number of investments in Spain. By amount, Germany stands out with €732.06 million.
Private Equity, Venture Capital and Asset Acquisitions
A total of 24 private equity transactions for €1,173 million were recorded in January, 167% more than in the first nine months of 2008 and 325% more than in the same period of 2008.
In the Venture Capital market, 29 transactions were completed for an aggregate amount of €869 million, a 36% decrease in the number of transactions and a 300% increase in the amount of transactions, year-on-year.
In the Asset Acquisitions segment, 64 transactions for an aggregate amount of €2,185 million were recorded, representing a 12% increase in the number of transactions and a 2.82% increase in the amount of transactions, year-on-year.
In terms of the ranking of legal advisors, Gómez-Acebo & Pombo Spain leads by number of transactions in 2022, with 7 transactions, and Uría Menéndez Spain leads by amount, with €941 million.
