Spanish lawyers will offer legal support to Ukrainian refugees

The Subcommittee on Immigration and International Protection of the General Council of Spanish Lawyers met urgently to coordinate a joint action by entire Legal Profession to support the Ukrainian people displaced due to the brutal aggression they have suffered from Russia

-

In addition to showing its total solidarity with the Ukrainian people, the Subcommittee has adopted various measures to provide legal support to all displaced persons who arrive in Spain fleeing the war. From all the Bar Associations, through the legal orientation services, legal support and advice will be given to all the people who need it and request it. The specialised immigration and international protection shifts in the Bar Associations will be at the service of all these people 365 days a year.

If necessary, the Council will request that these services be reinforced, to ensure that this support is offered. And the specific training of lawyers in matters that may affect all these people will be reinforced.

The Subcommittee also asked the Spanish authorities to support the immediate activation of the European directive that grants international protection to refugees throughout the community territory. And that they also speed up the procedures for international protection applications for these people.

Besides, information on their rights and the actions to follow to protect them will be provided shortly on the Council’s website. And a coordination mechanism has been created within the Council, made up of representatives of various Associations, with the aim of coordinating all actions and promoting new actions.
