MA Abogados hires former BBVA head of Litigation

Javier Puyol, former judge and BBVA´s head of Litigation, will head MA Abogados´ Regulatory Compliance and Legal advice on New Technologies

Among the most demanded services in this area are the global development of Regulatory Compliance programmes, support to the Compliance officer, the development of codes of conduct and the management of the complaints channel, as well as staff training and practical implementation of the different models.

Puyol is a judge on leave of absence and a Constitutional Court lawyer, who until now was practising in his own firm, Puyol-Abogados & Partners, and has been director of BBVA’s Litigation department for 16 years, and a partner at Ecix Group.

Javier Puyol has also managed the implementation of Regulatory Compliance in numerous companies and financial institutions.

He is a Law graduate from Universidad Pontificia Comillas ICADE with an extraordinary award and holds a PhD in Law from the UNED. He combines his professional and teaching facets. In this sense, the new of counsel of MA Abogados teaches and collaborates in the field of New Technologies at the Universities of Harvard and Berkley, among other Spanish and Latin American educational centres.

Puyol has an extensive career of more than 30 years in the Legal world and is a member of prestigious organisations such as APEP (Spanish Association of Privacy Experts), the ISMS Forum (Spanish Association for the Promotion of Information Security), CUMPLEN (Association of Regulatory Compliance Professionals), ENATIC (Spanish Association of National Experts in ICT Law) or the Institute of Audit & IT Governance.

He is a national and international consultant in information and communication technologies (ICT) and collaborates with the Spanish Data Protection Agency. He is also the author of numerous books on Compliance and New Technologies.
