Paloma Castro, until now Legal counsel at Técnicas Reunidas, joins leading litigation funder Deminor at this time of strong growth and opportunities for monetising legal claims. She holds previous experience at Freshfields and Pérez-Llorca.
Founded in 1990, Deminor is a leading international litigation finance company with offices in Brussels, London, Hamburg, New York, Hong Kong, Milan and Luxembourg.
Deminor’s strong international profile (16 different nationalities and the ability to work in 14 languages) has enabled it to fund cases in 18 jurisdictions, including the Americas, the Middle East, the Cayman Islands and Bermuda. With specialists in arbitration, intellectual property, competition law, corporate, investment, enforcement of awards and judgments and tax litigation, Deminor has achieved positive recoveries for clients in over 81% of the cases it has funded, compared to an industry average of 70%.
In addition to funding individual commercial claims, Deminor originates, syndicates and funds class actions. In 2018, Deminor was instrumental in reaching the largest settlement ever in Europe (€1.3bn in the Fortis case). Equally, the firm does not shy away from being a pioneer in jurisdictions where financing has not been tried. It was the first funder to support class actions in Italy and reached a landmark settlement in the Olympus securities action in Japan (2017).
Paloma is a Law graduate with a Journalism complement from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, and holds an MBA from The Power MBA, as well as various post-graduate programms in Litigation & Arbitration. She has also been an associate professor at Universidad Pontificia Comillas and Univerisidad Carlos III de Madrid.
