CDTI Innovation, through Innvierte, has participated in an investment round in the company Bioflytech, S.L. together with Moira Capital Partners and the Xunta de Galicia (through XesGalicia). The contribution committed by the CDTI innovation is €4,955,000.
Bioflytech (BFT), founded in 2012 as a spin-off from the University of Alicante, is a leading company in Europe specialising in the breeding and processing of the black soldier fly. After years of research, BFT achieved efficient breeding and development of the fly, surpassing the standard breeding and fattening rates in the market.
BFT has developed an efficient industrial process that allows it to offer insect protein and fat of high nutritional value for use as a feed ingredient for animal feed, mainly aquaculture and petfood, thus offering a solution to the growing demand for protein in the market in an environmentally sustainable way. As a by-product, BFT obtains compost, which it markets as an organic fertiliser.
The financing obtained through this investment round will allow BFT to increase its production capacity.
