HSF promotes four to senior associate

Herbert Smith Freehills has promoted Banking & Finance lawyer, Iñigo Bastarreche Jáudenes, Restructuring & Insolvency lawyer Marta Rey and Corporate lawyers Amparo de Leyva and Soledad Bialet to senior associate


At Herbert Smith Freehills, Íñigo advises banks and private developers on project & structured finance transactions such as energy and infrastructure projects. Iñigo also regularly advises both financial entities and listed and non-listed companies on real estate finance, asset finance, leveraged finance and corporate finance transactions including debt restructuring.

A few months ago, Iñigo joined HSF from Watson Farley & Williams where he was working in the Banking & Finance area for more than 4 years. He has also worked at EY.

Iñigo has a law degree from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and an LLM from the Centro de Estudios Garrigues in Business Corporate Law.

Marta joined Herbert Smith Freehills in 2019 as an associate of the Litigation, ADR and Arbitration practice in Madrid. She has an extensive experience in civil and trade proceedings. She is specialized in litigation, pre-insolvency and insolvency law, including advocacy before the Spanish Courts.

She has been involved in a significant number of insolvency proceedings across all phases. She has advised both companies in insolvency and creditors at insolvency proceedings, as well as filed mandatary insolvency petitions in the name of these creditors. In addition to the above, she has been involved in restructuring and refinancing transactions.

Marta also has experience in loan portfolio acquisitions. She has a law degree from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and after specializing in attending different courses and congresses in insolvency law, she completed an executive program in Trade Law at IE Law School.

Amparo de Leyva and Soledad Byalet

Amparo is experienced in providing corporate advice to leading Spanish and foreign entities in national and cross-border corporate transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, restructurings, private equity deals; drafting and negotiating shareholders and investment agreements; board of directors’ secretaries; and due diligence processes.

Amparo has a law degree and a business certificate awarded by Universidad Pontificia de Comillas (ICADE) in Madrid, partially studied at Radboud University, Nijmegen (The Netherlands). She also holds a double Master’s degree in lawyering and international business law (LLM) from Instituto de Empresa (IE).

With experience both in Argentina and Spain, and studies in international business law (LL.M. and CAIL Academy), Soledad provides advice to clients with a multijurisdictional mindset.  Her background proves of value, especially with clients holding interests in LatAm.

Soledad previously worked in Madrid and Argentina as Foreign Legal Consultant in several prestigious international law firms.
