The International Association of Football Lawyers (AIAF), an association currently gathering more than 120 lawyers from all over the world specialised in Football Law, was invited by FIFA to participate in an exclusive workshop on 28-29 June 2022.

An AIAF delegation comprising 6 members of the association’s Executive Committee travelled to Zurich to work closely with members of FIFA’s legal department to exchange views and share the practical experiences of AIAF members in advising a broad cross-section of Stakeholders on FIFA-related issues. This resulted in positive discussions on proposed amendments and clarifications to various regulations.

The AIAF team made comments and proposals on five main topics: Litigation Issues, Disciplinary Code, Ethics/Transparency, Status Regulations and the Transfer of Players and Agents.

The AIAF delegation was made up of Martin Auletta (Argentina), Carol Couse (UK), Horacio Gonzalez Mullin (Uruguay), Juan de Dios Crespo Perez (Spain), Marcos Motta (Brazil) and AIAF President Patricia Moyersoen (France).

From FIFA, Emilio Garcia Silvero Garcia, Head of Legal and Compliance Officer; Miguel Liétard Fernández-Palacios, Head of Litigation, Marta Ruiz-Ayucar, Head of Judicial Bodies (Instructor), Erika Montemor Ferreira, Head of Players’ Status, Americo Espallargas, Disputes Group Leader, and Luis Villas-Boas Pires, Head of Agents.

This is a historic moment, in which FIFA, for the first time, has received input from a representative body of external lawyers; AIAF hopes that this is the beginning of a long-term collaboration with world football’s governing body.
