Carlos Valls, the new partner GIRÓ | MARTÍNEZ Barcelona office, has been specialised in Intellectual Property disputes for many years (in particular, Patent Registration, Brands, Industrial Design, Unfair Competition, fundamental rights and Data Protection). He has combined his professional practice with active participation in M&A transactions (fundamentally, between industrial or trade companies) and in many cases representing foreign clients’ interests.
He started his career at Clifford Chance, at their Madrid office (1989), making partner and co-founding the Barcelona office in 1993, being the office managing partner until 2002. He left Clifford Chance to found his own firm, Iuris Valls Abogados until the merger with FORNESA ABOGADOS (now Augusta Abogados) in September 2013.
He is a regular speaker at the IBA Congress and also contributes to various publications, both Spanish and English.
Carlos was admitted to the Barcelona Bar in 1990, where he was elected deputy of the Board (2011-2013) and head of the Professional Prospectives Commission. He is president of the Associació pel Foment de l’Arbitratge (Association for the Promotion of Arbitration) and co-chair of the IBA Professional Ethics Committee. Carlos is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIARB) and attends regularly meetings at the IBA, INTA and AIPLA.
“An honor to have someone with his career and personal and professional value. Thank you for accepting the challenge, Carlos, welcome!,” the firm stated publicly.
