Garrigues advises Talenta on Barlon Capital II fund launch

Garrigues has advised Talenta Gestión on the launch of the new €20 million fund Barlon Capital II, that continues and consolidates the Barlon Capital investment strategy

Baron Capital, led by Javier Rubió, joins forces with Talenta Gestión in Barlon Capital II, which doubles the size of the first vehicle.

Javier Rubió expands his investment capacity in emerging companies through Barlon Capital. The co-founder of the telecommunications consultancy Cluster Consulting and the venture capital firms Nauta and Galdana has already set up a second vehicle aimed at technology-based start-ups. This is the venture capital company (SCR) Barlon Capital II, which will have twenty million euros at its disposal and will start operating as soon as its registration in the CNMV registry is formalised.

As with the first fund in the saga, Barlon Capital II will be managed by Talenta, a financial services firm based in Barcelona and headed by Jordi Jofre.

The first SCR of Rubió and his entourage of investors has resources of ten million euros, up from the figure of six million with which it was launched at the end of last summer (see EXPANSIÓN of 24 September). According to sources close to the project, this vehicle has ended its investment period after investing in a total of ten emerging companies, including the proptech company Housfy, the mailbox company Citibox and the e-commerce logistics firm Paack.

Barlon Capital II aims to raise between ten and fifteen deals, which will consist of investments in seed stage start-ups or Series A funding rounds. The new company is expected to allocate between €1 million and €2 million to each transaction.

The vehicle has a defined and closed capital structure. Barlon Capital II already has investment commitments of €20 million, so there is no need to seek new funding.

Garrigues advised Talenta Gestión with a Financial Regulatory team made up of partner Luis de la Peña, senior associate Francesc Cholvi, associate Marcelo Moreira and junior Ignacio Guerrero. This is the same team that advised Talenta on the launch of Talenta Gestión, as reported by Legal Dealmaker on May 9.
