The Task Force’s mission is to pool demand, coordinate the use of infrastructure, negotiate with international partners and prepare for joint gas and hydrogen purchases in order to phase out Europe’s dependence on Russian energy. Ignacio already worked for the EEAS (European External Action Service – or EU diplomatic service) last year when Freshfields granted him a short leave of absence from the office. But now, the Commission has recruited him back as a Policy Officer in the EU Energy Global Demand and International Negotiations unit.
Ignacio has worked as a Corporate and M&A lawyer at Garrigues, Uría Menéndez, and for the last three years, at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, where he has achieved rising star status for transaction amount and where he was advising until now on the Siemens Gamesa takeover bid together with Armando Albarrán and Asís Martín de Cabiedes.
He has combined his work as a lawyer with his passion for foreign relations and diplomacy, with experience in Washington D.C., Palestine, Nepal and El Salvador.
The European Commission Legal department states: “He is a great addition to the Commission without a doubt and a proud Spanish presence in the European institutions in Brussels.”
Baena was recognised as a rising star by TTR’s YTD report last June, which was published by this media.
