IFLR has revealed the shortlist, based on preliminary research, for the Europe Awards 2022, including deals, teams, national and international firms, and in-house categories. The Awards focus exclusively on legal innovation in cross-border transactions that closed in the calendar year in 2021. Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in London on May 5.
In the category of deals of the year, five deals with the participation of legal teams from Spain, four of them involving Spanish jurisdiction, have been selected in four different categories, out of a total of 72 shortlisted deals.
In the Equity category, IFLR shortlisted EDP Renováveis´ share placement, with a capital increase of €1.5 billion, in which advice was provided by Clifford Chance, DLA Piper, King & Wood Mallesons and Uría Menéndez, along with Morais Leitão.
The Telefónica-Liberty Global Joint Venture has been selected in the M&A category, a deal worth €36 billion that included the advice by Allen & Overy, Clifford Chance and Herbert Smith Freehills, along with Sherman & Sterling and Ropes & Gray.
Vitrolife´s €1.25 billion acquisition of Igenomix is the third selected deal, also in the M&A category, with the participation of Allen & Overy, Araoz & Rueda, Freshfields, Garrigues, Hogan Lovells, White & Case, Dentons and Cedric Law.
The last shortlisted deal, also in the M&A category is the sale of ACS´ industrial division to Vinci for €4.9 billion, advised by Clifford Chance, Cuatrecasas and EY Abogados, along with Barros & Errázuriz, Darrois Villey Maillot Brochier and Weil, Gotshal & Manges.
Also in the Debt and Equity-Linked category, there is a deal counting on advice from Spanish teams, the Principality of Andorra´s sustainability-linked bond, which was its first international global debt issuance programme up to €1.2 billion, with the participation of Allen & Overy, Clifford Chance and Cases & Lacambra.
In the national jurisdiction law firm of the year awards, the law firms shortlisted in Spain are Allen & Overy, Clifford Chance, Cuatrecasas, Garrigues, Gómez-Acebo & Pombo, Pérez-Llorca and Uría Menéndez.
On the in-house side, Telefónica is shortlisted in the Corporate in-house team of the year, competing with other four teams from Enel, Brookfield, Euronext and Liberty Global.
