DLA Piper promotes two counsel, three Legal directors

DLA Piper has promoted María Alonso (Tax) and Carmen Sánchez (Finance, Projects and Restructuring) to counsel. Francisco Bachiller (Corporate), Guillermo Bailach (Tax) and Ángel Maestro (Real Estate) have been promoted to Legal director

DLA Piper Spain has promoted several of the firm’s professionals to the positions of Counsel and Legal Director. Specifically, María Alonso (Tax) and Carmen Sánchez (Finance, Projects and Restructuring) have been promoted to Counsel, while Francisco Bachiller (Corporate), Guillermo Bailach (Tax) and Ángel Maestro (Real Estate) have been promoted to Legal Director. The appointments are effective as of 1 May.

María Alonso joined DLA Piper in 2006. She holds a degree in Law from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. She also completed a Master’s degree in Taxation at Centro de Estudios Garrigues. Prior to joining DLA Piper, she developed her professional career at Squire Sanders & Dempsey.

Carmen Sánchez joined DLA Piper in 2006. She holds a degree in Law and Business Studies from ICADE, and was a member of the now defunct corps of Chartered Commercial Brokers. Prior to joining DLA Piper, she worked at Squire Sanders & Dempsey.

Francisco Bachiller joined DLA Piper in 2017. He holds a degree in Law and a Diploma in International Relations from ICADE, as well as an LLM from Columbia, NY. Prior to joining DLA Piper, he worked at Clifford Chance and Freshfields in Madrid and London.

Guillermo Bailach joined DLA Piper in 2014. He holds a degree in Law from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and a Master’s degree in Corporate Tax from IE Law School, obtaining the Dean’s list award. Prior to joining DLA Piper, he developed his professional career at EY Abogados and Ramón y Cajal Abogados. He is currently studying for his PhD in Law at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid.

Ángel Maestro joined DLA Piper in 2021. He holds a degree in Law from the Complutense University of Madrid. He previously developed his professional career at Eversheds Sutherland and Uría Menéndez, where he had the opportunity to undertake a secondment in the London office.

Managing partner Jesús Zapata congratulated and thanked the new appointees on behalf of the entire firm and wished them “all the best in this new professional stage and a successful career at DLA Piper”. “These promotions represent, once again, the firm’s recognition of our talent”.
