DLA Piper appoints one counsel and four Legal directors in Spain

DLA Piper has promoted Remei Sánchez (Corporate) to Counsel; in addition, Carlos Daza (Litigation and Regulatory), Carmen Fernández-Ladreda Obegero (Finance, Projects and Restructuring), Héctor Gómez (Corporate) and Patricia Páez (Labour) have been promoted to Legal Director, being all of the new roles effective 1 July

DLA Piper Spain has promoted several professionals from the firm to the positions of counsel and Legal Director. Specifically, Remei Sánchez (Corporate) has been promoted to counsel, while Carlos Daza (Litigation and Regulatory), Carmen Fernández-Ladreda (Finance, Projects and Restructuring), Héctor Gómez (Corporate) and Patricia Páez (Labour) have been promoted to Legal Director. The appointments took effect on 1 July.

Remei Sánchez joined DLA Piper in 2012. She holds a degree in Law from the Universidad Pontificia de Comillas. Head of the insurance area at DLA Piper, she has more than 20 years of experience in regulatory, corporate and litigation advice for the insurance and reinsurance industry. During her career, she has advised on matters relating to insurance business and its establishment, product design, distribution, regulatory compliance and claims. She is a recognised specialist in the underwriting of event and warranty and contingent risks. She has extensive experience in mergers and acquisitions and private equity. 

Carlos Daza joined DLA Piper in January 2020. He holds a degree in Law from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. After preparing for competitive examinations, he has been working since 2011 in a prestigious national law firm. Carlos specialises in public law and regulated sectors. In particular, he has extensive experience advising national and international clients in the energy sector (hydrocarbons or renewables), environment, public procurement, infrastructure sector, telecommunications or water cycle. He also regularly advises on all kinds of administrative and contentious-administrative proceedings. He is featured in reputable legal directories such as Legal 500 (2021 and 2022).

Carmen Fernández-Ladreda Obegero joined DLA Piper in 2011. She holds a degree in Law and a degree in Business Administration and Management from the Universidad Pontificia de Comillas (ICADE, E-3). She specialises in real estate finance transactions, corporate finance, acquisition finance, as well as debt restructuring and refinancing and project finance. Carmen also teaches the Master in International Business Law at the University of Nebrija, the Master in International Law and the Master of International Law at ISDE. Carmen is the coordinator of the Pro Bono department of the Firm, coordinating, among others, with UNHCR the programme known as “Know Your Rights”.

Héctor Gómez joined DLA Piper in 2013. He continued his professional career at EY Abogados and returned to DLA Piper in 2019, during which time he also spent time in the London office. He holds a Law Degree from the University of Salamanca and a Master’s Degree in Business Law from ICADE, and has completed his training at IEB and Harvard Law School. Recognised as a Rising Star by number of transactions in 2021 and 2022 by TTR, he specialises in corporate law, mergers and acquisitions and advises on numerous corporate restructuring and reorganisation transactions.

Patricia Páez is a Labour and Employment lawyer in the Madrid office. She has extensive experience in all areas of employment law, advising national and international clients on all types of employment matters, especially dismissals, restructurings, hiring, negotiations, advice on labour aspects of M&A and posting of workers. She holds a degree in Law from the Complutense University of Madrid and a degree in Business Administration and Management from the European Business School. She also holds executive Master’s degrees in labour law from Centro de Estudios Garrigues and Centro de Estudios Financieros.
