Deloitte’s partners elected Héctor Flórez as the firm’s new chairman in the middle of last year, at the same time as they decided that the current chairman, Fernando Ruiz, should extend his term of office for a further year – until May 2022 – in order to facilitate the institutional transition in the extraordinary context marked by the Covid-19 crisis. Today, he takes over the presidency of Deloitte for a four-year term, as stipulated in the firm’s bylaws.
Flórez, with more than 30 years of professional service at Deloitte, has held different responsibilities in the firm, such as the management of the Strategy and Operations services from 2007 to 2017, a position he combined with that of CSO from 2011 to 2017. Since 2017, he has been managing partner of Deloitte Consulting.
Additionally, he is a member of the Executive Committee of Deloitte Spain and is part of the Executive Committee at a global level.
On his appointment as chairman of Deloitte, Héctor Flórez said: “It’s a great honour and a great responsibility. I am deeply grateful to the partners and, together with my team, I will continue to work to contribute to the firm’s leadership and to promote Deloitte’s purpose, which is to generate a positive impact on our clients, our professionals, and society.”
“I approach this new phase from a position of service, where our goal will be, above all, to help each of the 10,000 professionals who make up Deloitte in their professional development, and to help the firm to go further, to offer a valuable service to clients and, together, to enhance the legacy of Deloitte for the next generations,” added Flórez.
On his colleague’s appointment, Fernando Ruiz said: “Deloitte’s partners have chosen Héctor Flórez to occupy the presidency of the firm for the coming years thanks to his commitment to change and to a successful and differentiated strategy, based on offering high added value services that enable organisations to successfully face their transformation.”
“Moreover, Héctor is not only defined by his success as an executive. He is defined above all by the way he is. He is characterised by being a person who is close and empathetic with his teams, who he puts at the centre of his decisions, caring about their development and their personal and professional growth,” added Ruiz.
Fernando Ruiz has held the presidency of Deloitte Spain since 2009. During this period, he has strengthened the firm’s leadership in our country among professional services companies thanks to the promotion of values, collaboration, and a firm commitment to talent and job creation. During his tenure, the firm’s turnover grew from €398 million to €890 million, while the workforce has increased from 4,270 to 9,319 people, consolidating a successful business model.
