Cuatrecasas, GA_P lead TTR´s February report

The Spanish transactional market has registered up to February a total of 381 transactions with an aggregate amount of €9,143 million, according to TTR's monthly report in collaboration with Intralinks

These figures represent a 7% decrease in the number of transactions compared to the same period in 2021, as well as a 63% decrease in capital raised. Meanwhile, 175 mergers and acquisitions, both announced and closed, were registered in February for an aggregate amount of €3,553 million.

In terms of sectors, Real Estate was the most active sector of the year, with a total of 107 transactions and an increase of 73% compared to the same period in 2021, followed by Internet, Software and IT Services, with 35.

Cross-Border

With regard to the Cross-Border market, Spanish companies have chosen the United Kingdom as their main investment destination up to February 2022, with 10 transactions. On the other hand, the United States and France, with 28 and 23 operations, respectively, are the countries that have made the greatest number of investments in Spain. By amount, Germany stood out with €872 million.

Private Equity, Venture Capital and Asset Acquisitions

A total of 47 private equity transactions for €1,707m were recorded up to February, 68% more than in the same period of the previous year and 10% more than in the same period of 2008.

In the Venture Capital market, there were 75 transactions for an aggregate amount of €1,370 million, a 25% decline in the number of transactions and a 45% increase in the amount of transactions, year-on-year.

In the Asset Acquisitions segment, 128 transactions for an aggregate amount of #3,357m were recorded up to February, representing a 17% increase in the number of transactions and a 165% increase in the amount of transactions, year-on-year.

Deal of the month

In February 2022, TTR selected Sandfire’s acquisition of Minas de Agua Teñida (MATSA) as its transaction of the month, a deal that was announced on September 2021. The transaction, which amounted to approximately €1,588 million, was advised on the legal side by Allen & Overy; PwC Tax & Legal España; and Clifford Chance. On the financial side, the transaction was advised by PwC Spain; Natixis Partners and EY Spain.

Dealmakers and law firms

In terms of the ranking of Legal advisors, Gómez-Acebo & Pombo Spain leads by number of transactions in 2022, with 16 deals, and Cuatrecasas Spain leads by amount, with €1,776 million.

The dealmakers list is headed by Clifford Chance partner Luis Alonso and Cuatrecasas counsel Jorge Botella, while by number of deals Gómez-Acebo & Pombo partner Álvaro Mateo and Pinsent Masons managing partner Diego Lozano lead the ranking.
