Costas will be physically based in Shanghai, from where she will work in coordination with the Beijing office and Cuatrecasas’ Asian Desk.
Costas will strengthen the firm’s legal services and presence in the open and competitive Asian market, where Cuatrecasas has more than 15 years of experience. Costas will play a key role in decision-making in two of the firm’s main international offices, advising and supporting clients in their operations in Asia, Europe, Africa, and Latin America.
A Law graduate from the Universidad de Santiago de Compostela with a specialisation in Foreign Trade Management, Costas has 20 years of experience as a Corporate lawyer, having spent most of her professional career based in Asia (Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong). Before joining Cuatrecasas, Costas worked in China at the law firm DLA Piper and held other positions in different institutions in China, such as the Commercial Section of the Spanish Embassy and the Spanish Chamber of Commerce.
She specialises in cross-border commercial transactions (direct investments, mergers, and acquisitions, joint ventures, special purpose vehicles, and restructurings) and commercial transactions between Asia, Europe, and the Americas, representing clients from the industrial, consumer, and financial sectors in their various stages of investment and transactions. A member of the Spanish Bar, Costas serves as secretary to the board of directors of several companies and, at the same time, regularly advises clients on corporate governance.
On her recent incorporation, Sandra Costas says: “I am grateful for the trust placed in me and proud to be part of an institution that puts knowledge, innovation, and people – be they lawyers, clients or collaborators – at the centre of everything it does. She added: “I also come to Cuatrecasas at a time of reopening and strong recovery in Asia in general and China in particular, which will translate, both inside and outside the region, into new investment and trade opportunities for clients and undoubtedly into new opportunities for Cuatrecasas as a firm.”
Omar Puertas, co-head of Cuatrecasas’ China offices and partner of the International Litigation and Arbitration practice, said: “Sandra’s appointment demonstrates Cuatrecasas’ commitment to the Chinese and Asian markets in general, where we have been developing a leading practice for more than 20 years.”
