CMS Spain appoints two members to CMS Council

CMS Albiñana & Suárez de Lezo has appointed Rafael Suárez de Lezo and Irene Miró as the firm's new representatives to the CMS Council

-

The Council is the governing body of CMS that is responsible for the supervision of the Executive Committee. Among other functions, it approves the organisation’s accounts, advises on CMS strategic matters, and, if necessary, can intervene in the Executive Committee. It is also the body in charge of supervising and approving the inclusion of new firms in the organisation. On this occasion, it will be Rafael and Irene will represent the Spanish firm.

As members of the CMS Council, Rafael and Irene will contribute their experience and advice in the implementation of the CMS Strategic Plan.

César Albiñana, managing partner of the firm, highlighted that “Rafael’s experience and professional background, as well as his historical commitment to the Firm, the clients, and the institutional values of the firm, will give rise to a valuable approach when it comes to representing us before the organisation. After more than ten years on the Executive Committee, his entry to the Council is a natural evolution, as this body is composed, to a large extent, of major international institutional figures, such as Rafael.”

“In Irene’s case, her appointment is a recognition of her involvement in the Committee after almost twelve years, being a key member not only in implementing the current and future business strategy but also in promoting and safeguarding the interests of our firm in the organisation,” added César.

Rafael Suárez de Lezo is recognised by the most representative directories, such as Chambers & Partners and Legal 500. He is a founding partner of CMS Albiñana & Suárez de Lezo, partner and chairman since 2019, partner of the Corporate / M&A department, and now a member of the CMS Council. He specialises in the areas of Securities, Corporate, Mergers and Acquisitions, Finance, Competition, Insolvency, and Litigation. His institutional position, locally and internationally, as part of the Executive Committee of CMS until last November, will contribute to further strengthening the firm’s positioning as an innovative, quality, and technical excellence firm.

“I take on this project with great enthusiasm, and I am committed to contributing as much as possible to continue driving the growth and positioning of the organisation. Our unique structure is designed to facilitate collaboration so that each team can operate and innovate in the way that best suits client needs and local market issues. It is an entrepreneurial approach that has and will continue to deliver excellent results,” said Rafel.

Irene Miró has almost 15 years of experience and is a partner in the Corporate / M&A department. She has extensive experience in advising both national and international clients on matters related to commercial law, including, among other areas, mergers and acquisitions, corporate law, corporate restructuring processes, commercial contracts, and corporate governance, having advised both national and international companies in this regard.

According to Irene, “CMS is not a one-country organisation with offices in many locations, but a global organisation with recognised and reputable firms in each jurisdiction, which allows us to offer the best possible service. I am, therefore, very excited and proud to represent Spain. I am sure it will be a great step in my professional career. From here, I would like to extend my thanks to all the partners of the firm for the support and trust they have placed in me to represent the firm.”
