Bird & Bird advises Defeder on Oscafos acquisition

Bird & Bird has advised Defeder, a company specialising in the development of 100% ecological and eco-viable products for agriculture and animal feed from organic raw materials, on its acquisition of organic fertiliser Oscafos

-

Defeder, a company specialising in the development of 100% ecological and eco-viable products for agriculture and animal feed from organic raw materials, announced the acquisition of Oscafos. Based in Huesca, Oscafos specialises in ecological and organic fertilisers.

With this transaction, Defeder aims to significantly expand its production and increase its product range. This acquisition is a strong bet for Defeder’s market positioning, entering the segment of organo-mineral fertilisers, Oscafos’ area of expertise.

Oscafos is an ecological and organic fertiliser plant founded 11 years ago located in Albelda (Huesca). In 2022 Oscafos marketed more than 25,000 tonnes of fertilisers, consolidating its growth. Defeder will maintain the product portfolio and the Oscafos brand.

“The acquisition of Oscafos allows us to considerably increase production, offer new products, expand the range of applications in the fields and reach more customers to offer them a greater variety of organic fertilisers, according to their needs, with more nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus… or chicken manure, etc.,” says Joaquín Saila, founding partner of Defeder.

With this acquisition, Defeder consolidates its presence in the Spanish market and continues to position itself as one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of ecological and organic fertilisers.

The transaction has been advised by PwC, as financial advisors to the shareholders of Oscafos, and by Bird & Bird, as legal advisors to Defeder.

Bird & Bird advised with a team made up of Corporate M&A of counsel Santiago Lardiés and Real Estate associate Julieta Bermúdez.
