David has extensive experience in the judiciary world after graduating as top of his class from Judicial School in the academic year 2002. He has worked as a senior Civil, Criminal and Contentious Administrative judge in Madrid and Barcelona. As a magistrate, David was also a member of the Group of International Experts and Crisis Management of the General Council of the Judiciary and the Relations Committees of the Governing Chamber of the High Court of Justice of Catalonia.

Having spent years developing his judicial career, he has been a practising attorney for more than a decade in the field of business law and has been director of the University Master’s Degree in Law and the specialised Master’s degree at Esade Business School as well as director of the Specialised Corporate Compliance Course at the same university.

Over the last few years he has also acted as a permanent member on ethical and compliance committees of various multinational companies and as an advisor to the World Bank for revising Corporate Government schemes.

David has stated that joining Baker McKenzie is due to “his goal to become part of a hugely prestigious global firm with sound local operations. The firm was the first international firm to be set up in Barcelona and has managed to achieve a position as a benchmark thanks to its level of specialisation and the commitment it undertakes with its national and international clients”. Bruno Domínguez, co-managing partner of Baker McKenzie in Spain, highlighted David’s experience “in international projects since, as an attorney, he has undertaken the management of Leading Cases in Criminal Economic Law with different multinationals”. Bruno added that Velázquez joining the firm shows “Baker McKenzie’s clearly identifiable and deep-rooted commitment to continue growing and offering a level of service and specialisation in two key fields in high demand among our clients”.

David holds a degree in Law from Universidad Complutense de Madrid and a PhD Cum Laude in Criminal Law from the same University. The new partner of Baker McKenzie speaks Catalan, Spanish, English and German.
