Baker, Corporate Defence secure acquittal for defendants in “Neymar 2” case

Baker McKenzie´s Criminal Litigation team, along with Corporate Defence, have secured acquittal of all defendants in the "Neymar 2" case before the Barcelona High Court

The Barcelona High Court has acquitted all the defendants in the ‘Neymar 2 case’. The court acquitted FC Barcelona and Sandro Rosell as well as Neymar Jr, Neymar Sr, Santos and its former president Odilio Rodrigues.

The defendants were tried for alleged fraud and corruption between private individuals in the signing of the player in 2013, according to the ruling published on Tuesday, which ends the statement by assuring that “the evidence does not show that the player was offered a bribe and/or that he demanded it in order to sign for FC Barcelona. According to the court, contractual simulation has not been proven and neither has the aim of harming DIS. Alexandre Rosell Feliu, Neymar da Silva Santos junior, Neymar da Silva Santos, Odilio Rodrigues Filho, Josep Maria Bartomeu i Floreta, N&N Consultoría Esportiva e Empresarial, Santos Futebol Clube and Fútbol Club Barcelona are acquitted of the offences for which they were charged.”

As reported by Legal Dealmaker in October, a Baker McKenzie´s Criminal Litigation team, along with Corporate Defence, defended Neymar in its transfer trial,and have now secured acquittal of all defendants.

Neymar´s defence was conducted by Baker McKenzie Criminal Litigation area, with partner María Massó representing the player, partner Jesús Santos representing his father and team manager Alicia Franch representing his mother.

The defence of the company´s legal entity was carried out jointly with Carlos Gómez-Jara, founding partner of Corporate Defence.

The plaintiff will have to pay the legal fees.
