Global law firm Ashurst has announced a record number of promotions with the appointment of 25 partners, effective from 1 May 2022. The promotions are across six offices and 13 practices, with 48% in Asia Pacific and 52% in Europe. By country, twelve of the new partners are in Australia, ten in the UK, two in Milan and one in Madrid. Notably, 48% of the partners promoted this year are female.

In Spain the promoted partner ha been Ricardo García-Borregón, a senior associate in the firm´s Tax practice.

Ricardo has broad experience in tax planning, advising national and international clients in all aspects of Spanish taxation, above all in those with an international component.

In particular, he is specialised in advising in connection to the tax aspects of M&A and restructuring transactions, both concerning direct and indirect taxation, being specially involved in real estate investments, acquisitions of NPLs portfolios and debt refinancing deals, including their implications from a transfer pricing point of view. In addition, he has wide experience in prevention and resolution of tax litigation procedures, representing clients before the Spanish Administration in the course of tax audits as well as before the Spanish Courts and the EU institutions.

Ricardo has been involved in very innovative transactions in the real estate market such as the incorporation of the first FAB created by SAREB, or of one of the first SOCIMIs listed in Spain (REIT) – as well as in the structuring of complex acquisitions of NPLs and REOs portfolios.

“I would like to congratulate all our new partners on their promotion and welcome them to our global partnership. They are an outstanding group of lawyers with exceptional talent, skill and experience, who embody the collaborative and inclusive culture that is at the heart of our firm,” said Global Chair Karen Davies. “This is the largest ever cohort of new partners in our history, reflecting our continued commitment to invest in the future of our global firm and our people, and demonstrating the confidence we have about the growth opportunities that lie ahead. Their appointment is a testament to their leadership and the critical contribution they have made to our clients and the firm.”

“As 2022 marks Ashurst’s 200 year anniversary, the new partner cohort represents the next generation of diverse leaders who will continue to make Ashurst extraordinary. They also underline the strength and depth of the talent at the firm, and will have a positive impact for the firm’s clients.”
