Aledra bolsters Commercial area with triple of counsel hire

Aledra, the firm headed by Cristina de Santiago has hired Rafael del Castillo, Juliana Barbedo and Ignacio Coloma as of counsel in the firm´s Commercial practice

Rafael del Castillo has a solid academic and professional background in fintech, energy and regulated markets. He is a practising lawyer at the Madrid Bar Association (ICAM) and holds a PhD in Law from the CEU San Pablo University. Between 2011 and 2018, he was head of the international projects legal department of one of the largest renewable energy companies in the world, coordinating the legal team and acting as secretary of the group’s companies. He worked on multiple engineering O&M, EPC, etc. projects in countries such as Nigeria, Serbia, Romania, Venezuela, Armenia, Russia, Cuba, Kenya and India. He graduated with honours from the Executive MBA programme at Skolkovo Moscow School of Management which gave him a broad perspective on business issues fostering an entrepreneurial mindset.cHe worked for several years in Zug (Switzerland) providing legal advice to trading companies and large FMCG international merchandise distribution holdings with a strong focus on emerging online marketplaces such as Amazon. Upon his return to Spain, before joining the Aledra Legal team, he worked as an independent legal advisor specialising in blockchain and digital law projects advising national and international clients on various matters such as token issuance (utility tokens and security tokens), NFTs, cryptoasset investment schemes, cryptoasset management, custody and regulatory compliance.

Juliana Barbedo is a lawyer with more than 15 years of experience in advising on cross-border transactions in corporate and commercial law, focusing on intellectual and industrial property, media, telecommunications, technology, data protection and competition law. She was a partner for more than 10 years in a boutique law firm in Brazil, representing important companies in the communications and telecommunications sector in Latin America, including the different companies of the Globo group and the telecommunications company Claro (part of the America Movil group). Juliana has been involved in several international projects in the media industry as in-house counsel for the Globo group, advising the journalism, commercial, financial and audiovisual production teams, as well as being part of the regulatory team. With extensive experience in multicultural environments, Juliana is licensed to practice law in Spain (as an EU lawyer), Brazil and Portugal. She has developed her professional experience as a partner at Spencer West Spain (Madrid, Spain), associate at BDAC (Madrid, Spain), partner at San Tiago Dantas Quental Advogados Associados (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and lawyer at Globo Comunicação e Participações (São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil).

Ignacio Coloma has been practising law since 1981. Over the years he has been involved in more than 1,500 civil, commercial, contentious-administrative, criminal and labour proceedings in Spain, Switzerland and France, as well as in numerous commercial and corporate transactions of all kinds. For more than 25 years he has specialised in civil and commercial law, with extensive experience in agency, distribution and franchise agreements, as well as in mergers and acquisitions, corporate law, insurance and civil and commercial contracts in general. For seven years Ignacio combined his legal practice with his business activities, having held representative positions (Director, Director and CEO) in various companies related to advertising and real estate. He has held the position of Secretary General of the Court of Arbitration of the Madrid Bar Association since May 1992. He is currently the Ombudsman and head of the “Ethics Line” of KPMG Spain and, since October 2018, Secretary of Proceedings and legal advisor of Nueva Mutua Sanitaria del Servicio Médico.
